On One Margaret Mitchell Avenue stands the majestic world renown architectural piece by Marcel Breuer, recognized architect from the Bauhaus School. The Fulton County Central Library was completed in1980. A plaza and the building glass storefront opens to the public inviting us all. Its renovation includes issues of safety, security, health and functional adaptation for technical advances as well as aesthetic revitalization of the interiors. The renovation takes place on 6 floors and includes 221,000 SF in gross area. The design incorporates existing furniture with original pieces by Marcel Breuer and LeCorbusier. The biggest design challenge was to update the look by brightening the spaces, making it a more cheerful workspace for the employees and more inviting to public, without altering the design intent of the original architect. The client wanted a coffee shop feel. The Atlanta/Fulton Public Library renovation project, in addition to the renovation of the interior finishes and study of health issues, included the solution to an ongoing water penetration problem that had rendered important spaces unusable. The water penetration problem had undergone several unsuccessful attempts of repair. We performed a thorough study of the problem that provided a clear insight and aided in the research of the necessary solution.
Project Size: 221,000 Sq. Ft.
