Spotlight: Black History is More Than a Month
March 27, 2021

According to the National Organization of Minority Architects, only 2% of all licensed architects are black. While that number is terribly low, it's important to note that the industry does continue to take steps towards diversifying itself and advocating for equality.
Although Black History month has come to a close, we want to honor some of the top trailblazing Black architects to our country's built environments, the architecture profession, and to American culture at large:
- Robert Robinson Taylor, first accredited Black architect in the USA
- Wallace Augustus Rayfield
- William Sidney Pittman
- McKissack & McKissack, the first Black-owned architectural firm in the USA
- Julien Abele
- Clarence W. Wigington
- Vertner Woodson Tandy
- Paul Revere Williams
- Albert Irvin Cassell
